New Coldplay – “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall”

4 Jun

Coldplay is back with producer Brian Eno for yet another highly derivative single, this time entitled “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall.” Despite the title, it’s not a mushy ballad, but instead a generic anthemic pop tune which borrows from Peter Allen’s “I Go To Rio.” Listen to the full tune in all its glory below:

Coachella 2012 Will Extend to Two Weekends

31 May

It’s the festival that keeps on growing, and just when it seemed like it couldn’t get much bigger after selling out in a mere instant last year, Coachella has announced that next years festival will take place over two weekends. Yes, you’re reading that correctly, two separate weekends. The lineups will be the same, so you won’t miss anything, it’s just intended as a way for everyone to have a chance to go, which is pretty awesome on their part. Coachella weekend one will be April 13-15, 2012, while Coachella weekend two will be April 20-22, 2012.

2011 Lollapalooza Lineup Announced

27 Apr

Lollapalooza’s lineup has finally been revealed, and if you’re expecting something entirely new and different for their 20th anniversary– well, you’re not really going to get it.

Headlining on the main stages will be Eminem (I wonder if he’ll show up in a Chrysler?), Foo Fighters, Coldplay and Muse. On Perry’s stage, headliners are Girl Talk, Pretty Lights and KiD CuDi. Tickets are going to run you $215 for the three-day passes, as early bird tickets have sold out. For more information, check out their website. To view the full lineup, click here.

Dave Matthews Band Caravan Coming to Chicago

7 Apr

Looks like there’s going to be a new festival in town this summer, as the Dave Matthews Band Caravan has added a Chicago stop to their list of destinations. Rather than downtown Grant Park, however, the caravan will be instead traveling to the South Shore area of Chicago where the US South Steel Works used to reside. It’ll be interesting to see if folks will be willing to pony up $195 to travel to the (relatively) far south side of Chicago, but in the meantime, the caravan boasts such acts as David Gray, Ray LaMontagne, Kid Cudi, The Flaming Lips (performing Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon), Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, and of course, DMB themselves. While the price alone puts it squarely against Lollapalooza, the grandaddy of Chicago summer festivals, the lineup looks like it could very well be something of a Bonnaroo north, but with a more intimate setting.

For more information about the festival and ticket sales, check out the caravan website.

In response to the album recently leaking, Dave Grohl and company have allowed its fans to enjoy Wasting Light in its entirety ahead of the April 12 release date. At first blush it could easily be the best Foo Fighters release in what feels like an eternity, and it looks like their new recording process may have helped things considerably. Give a listen below, and look for a review in the next few days:

New TV on the Radio – “Caffeinated Consciousness”

10 Mar

Hot on the heels of releasing “Will Do,” TV on the Radio has a wonderful follow-up track to continue to build their hype for Nine Types of Light (4/12 via Interscope). Entitled “Caffeinated Consciousness,” it’s clear that TVotR is going in a different direction, but it really truly works. This song packs one heck of a punch, with its production striking a certain similarity to Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer,” albeit cranked to eleven. At the rate things are going, the Brooklyn based band will likely release one to two more songs before their album hits shelves, but so far, so good.

Listen to “Caffeinated Consciousness” below, or download the song for as little as your email address.

Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes Releases Free EP

7 Mar
Fleet Foxes - Robin Pecknold

This should help satiate the appetites of fans anxiously awaiting the release of  Helplessness Blues on May 3, as Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold released a trio of tracks today as a free EP. As you’d expect, the songs are subdued folky jams that are perfect for late-night meditations or stargazing. What you may not expect however, is that the lead track “I’m Losing Myself” features Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear. The collaboration works stunningly well with the fantastic harmonies balancing delicately above a sparse acoustic arrangement, and it’s likely going to be the favorite for many. You can download the EP for free here or stream the whole thing below:

New Sondre Lerche – “Domino”

7 Mar

Sondre Lerche follows up Heartbeat Radio with an eponymous album set for release on June 7, and in addition to a recently announced tour, Lerche unveils his new song “Domino.” Decidedly less glossy than anything from Heartbeat Radio– an admittedly easy feat– “Domino” may warm the hearts of those that miss Lerche’s earlier days, although the songwriting on this track seems rather sub par. Listen to the latest from Sondre Lerche below:
