Lollapalooza Rumors include Muse, Foo Fighters and Eminem

    8 Feb

It’s that time of year again, and venerable Chicago Tribune music critic Greg Kot has revealed that Muse, Foo Fighters and Eminem are the likely headliners of Lollapalooza 2011. Also expected to play are Best Coast, Girl Talk, Lykke Li, and Crystal Castles. The most original of the headliners given is certainly Eminem, who will certainly be a polarizing choice for many. Muse has performed at Lollapalooza in the past and had long been linked to headline in 2011, and Foo Fighters seem to be hitting as many major festivals as possible this year. Girl Talk, however, will be an interesting addition, and should fare well for those that like to get their dance on at Lolla. There’s certainly more to come, but this is a big start in indicating the direction of the festival this year.

    Sasquatch! Festival Announces Impressive Lineup

    7 Feb

“You’ve come a long way baby,” that’s the first thing that pops to mind when reading the lineup for the 2011 Sasquatch Festival at The Gorge in Washington. Other artists include Wolf Parade (likely one of the last opportunities to see them), Guided By Voices, Deerhunter, The Decemberists, Major Lazer, K-Os, and many, many more.

New Fleet Foxes – “Helplessness Blues”

    31 Jan

After three years Fleet Foxes are finally back with a new album in tow, Helplessness Blues. To be released May 3 via Sub Pop records, the band has also given a sneak peak at what their sophomore effort will have to offer by releasing the title track as well. It admittedly starts off sluggish as all get out with some rather clumsy lyrics, but quickly recovers before really coming together by the end. Check it out below!

    Foo Fighters Tease New Track

    20 Jan

    Foo Fighters

In a world of album leaks, it’s strangely refreshing that Foo Fighters have managed to wait all this time to simply release a 30-second tease of their opening track “Bridge Burning” off of their upcoming album. The release date is this spring, and from the looks of things, it seems that Dave Grohl and company are looking to bring their grunge sound back. Produced by Butch Vig of Nirvana Nevermind fame and recorded entirely on analog tape, the album features Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic and also marks the return of guitarist Pat Smear. While the thirty-second clip sounds very promising, we’ll have to see how the album holds up come springtime. In the meantime, enjoy the teaser.

Girl Talk releases All Day for free, comes close to breaking the internet

    16 Nov

In case you missed it, Gregg Gillis aka Girl Talk, surprised everyone by not just releasing his new album All Day but releasing it for free via Illegal Art. It appears that everyone and their mother is downloading the album though as the download has come to a crawl on many occasions. That being said, it’s well worth it for fans and curious listeners, and although it’s MP3-only for now, the 320kbps compression rate is respectable enough to make most everyone happy.

Look for a proper review to be posted here as early as tomorrow for Girl Talk’s latest, but it can pretty much be summed up as follows: If you’ve always liked Girl Talk, you’re gonna love this album– but it’s not going to change the mind of any of his detractors.

Judge for yourself though, and download the album today.

New Lupe Fiasco – “The Show Goes On”

    14 Nov

Just when it was just starting to look as though a Child Rebel Soldiers project would be released before we’d even have an indication of a release date for Lupe Fiasco’s highly anticipated LASERS, we now have both a single and a date in hand. March 8, 2011 is the date (at least for now), and the first single is the Modest Mouse-riffing “The Show Goes On.” While it would’ve been nice to have Matthew Santos in tow again to do the vocals (if for no other reason but to save us from the overly enthusiastic auto-tune), the song carries a heartily triumphant and anthemic sound that should do well to generate hype going into the spring. How the rest of the album stacks up will remain to be seen, but for now here’s something to enjoy. Stream the song below, and if you like it, you can buy it directly from Lupe for $1.29.

    New Cee-Lo “F*** You”

    22 Aug

If I can go out on a limb, I would say (or hope for that matter) that this would become this generation’s “Song for the Dumped.” Innovative, soulful, blisteringly honest and forthright, “F*** You” extends far beyond its blunt chorus, with a well-executed new-wave Motown R&B style that could rival Raphael Saadiq’s latest work. While the official music video is still in the works, the official lyric video still underscores the lighthearted yet biting nature of this superb piece of work. If the first released teaser “Georgia” wasn’t enough for you, this should certainly prove that the upcoming Lady Killer is going to be something special when it finally comes out October 4. Enjoy the video below!

New Kanye West (feat. Beyoncé and Charlie Wilson) – “See Me Now”

    11 Aug

No matter what Kanye decides to call his upcoming album, it looks as though it’ll be something truly special. Putting the obligatory “I’mma let you finish” jokes aside, “See Me Now” is a return to form in every sense of the word. Impressive in scope, “See Me Now” combines the best aspects of Kanye’s first two albums while maintaining the slick production that his later work has featured. As far as the guest features go, while having Beyoncé and Charlie Wilson of Gap Band fame is certainly going to draw some attention, West’s rapping takes center stage. Kanye is in a rare form that hasn’t been seen much at all recently, drawing on clever wordplay and an unrelenting flow that feels incredibly natural for him rather than forced. At the end of the six minute opus, Kanye proclaims “I know you thinkin’, this that Yeezy we all love… I’m back baby!” Yes, Mr. West, you truly are back, and this is, in essence a culmination of what the fans have loved most about your music– hopefully the rest of the album follows through on the promise of this track as well as the previously released “Power.”

As an added bonus, you can download this song for free from Kanye’s website.
